Ovariectomy & Vasectomy
This day in age, we have more options than a full spay and a full neuter. There are many clinics we now have the options to do Ovariectomy & Vasectomies. These surgeries allow the dogs to remain with their main reproductive organs, while remaining sterile. This allows the hormones to stay in place throughout the entirety of their life.
-
Female dogs, "spaying" traditionally refers to an ovariohysterectomy (OVH), where both the ovaries and the uterus are removed. An ovariectomy (OVE) involves removing only the ovaries.
-
In male dogs, "neutering" usually refers to castration (orchiectomy), which is the surgical removal of both testicles. A vasectomy involves severing the tubes (vas deferens) that transport sperm, rendering the dog sterile while leaving the testicles intact.
We suggest doing the research of what clinics may preform such surgeries months prior to your dogs contracted age of alteration, between 8-12 months of age. Please note the alter agreement must be completed by the dogs 1st birthday. Whether you choose to do full spay/neuter, or ovariectomy/vasectomy is up to the adoptive family. Please text proof of completion to Sarah (541) 525-3544. Proof options include- invoice with dogs information or a spay/neuter certificate.
Here is a national database for looking up such surgeries. Please note this does not list EVERY clinic.
